Students get on two wheels for the BigBike Challenge
Mastering mountain bike skills with expert help
We got off to a racing start today as our students took part in the BigBike Challenge recently.
Mountain biking coaches from BikeRightUK bought bikes and a mountain bike skills loop “pump track” and coached the students in mountain biking techniques as they faced the challenged track obstacles. The day was made possible by funding from Centro’s £48m Smart Network, Smarter Choices project which aims to encourage more sustainable travel for people to jobs, leisure, shopping and education, achieving economic growth in a low-carbon way.
Ben Clarke, a member of BikeRightUK’s mountain bike coach team said, “It great to see children come to the sessions with set expectations relating to the mountain biking experience and to have these totally challenged and have good fun at the same time. Seeing their confidence grow in just one session, makes our job so worthwhile”.
Louise Moore, PE teacher here at Pedmore and organiser of the challenge said, “We are really delighted that Pedmore students have had the opportunity to experience this exciting sporting challenge. We encourage our students adopt a healthy lifestyle with lots of physical activity and to challenge themselves with new experiences. The coaches were terrific and gave our children the confidence to really push themselves further”.
