Rio comes to Pedmore! A PTC day to remember

Making fantastic costumes from recycled rubbish for a procession to remember!

On Thursday 16th July everyone at PTC got into the carnival mood.  For several weeks now, form groups have been busy collecting rubbish for recycling into exotic carnival costumes and decorations.

The Year 9 GCSE Business Enterprise group helped by Mrs Hunter, teacher of Business Enterprise have helped form groups think about the kinds of costumes they could make from recycled materials for the big day.   They distributed glue guns, staplers and other tools to help support their peers in putting together the creations.

All morning the form groups worked hard on putting the final touches to their designs with everyone involved in the making process.

Carnival masks, hats dresses, caps and more were constructed from crisp packets, old newspaper, boxes, recycled tin foil, plastic bottles and more and the result was outstanding!

The forms then met in PTC’s playground and the procession took place with Latin American carnival music and bright sunshine adding to the occasion.

This day was made extra special by a visit from Helen Beardmore, Head of Education at the Peter Jones Foundation.  As we have recently become a Peter Jones Enterprise School we used this project to showcase our school’s enterprising approach and celebrate our success in gaining the award.  Helen came to see our last enterprise venture and was very impressed by the teamwork and commitment to the task as she visited the form groups and amazed by the afternoon’s procession.  She said, “I have visited many schools to see their enterprise initiatives but have never seen a whole school project where everyone is involved,  no “bought in” expertise and everyone had so much fun.  Today’s event really shows that Pedmore are committed to having an enterprising approach to education and encourage everyone to get involved”.
