Imogen does so well at the semi finals of Rotary Young Chef
Our student cookery star competes in Rugby at the Semi Finals of Rotary Young Chef 2017
Year 9 student Imogen proved this weekend that she has great career potential as a talented chef. Imogen competed in the semi/regional final of the Rotary Young Chef competition in Rugby at the Warwickshire College Rugby Centre, battling against several Catering college's students.
The Rotary Young Chef Competition is a well established and successful competition organised and promoted by Rotary International in Great Britain & Ireland and sponsored by Filippo Berio. The winner from this heat would progress to the RIBI Final in Lincoln on 20th May 2017. Those competing in the event (including Imogen) had already competed in their local heats and their respective district finals.
The participant's task was to prepare a three course healthy meal in two hours comprising of a starter, main course and dessert for two people costing less than £15 or euro equivalent.
Imogen's menu was
STARTER- PANCETTA PARCEL & ASPARAGUS
A lightly grilled pancetta parcel stuffed with soft goats cheese, alongside griddled asparagus drizzled with a hollandaise sauce
MAIN- PAN SEARED CHICKEN
Pan seared chicken with creamed potatoes coated in a red wine reduction, button mushrooms and onions and smoked pancetta served with seasonal vegetables
DESSERT- BERRY LIGHT CHEESCAKE CRUNCH WITH A RASPBERRY FOAM
Raspberry foam with a berry and granola healthy cheesecake
After much debating, the professional chef judges announced the winners and Imogen was awarded third prize for her meal. To read more about Imogen's path to cooking success, click here.
