HOMEWORK TIMETABLE 2024-2025

At Pedmore High School all students are set homework that is appropriate to their age and ability. The rationale being that the tasks should be meaningful, enjoyable and an integral part of our students’ learning experience.

There will be a wide range of tasks set by teachers which will include the use of knowledge organisers which support preparation for key assessments and learning key knowledge.  This timetable is in place as a guide of what can be expected each week. It should enhance the students’ management of their own time and develop effective private study habits outside school.

Parents and carers can make a significant contribution to a child’s future wellbeing by having high expectations regarding the quality and completion of homework. Please continue, where possible, to provide a suitable study environment with the necessary resources to promote the expected standard and presentation of work submitted.

It is expected that all students will read for 15 minutes every evening from a range of fiction and non-fiction texts.

Provision during an after-school club located each week on Monday to Friday in the ILC will run for one hour for students who wish to use IT resources and require support.

Core Subjects (Maths, English, Science) will set an extension piece of work as well as revision tasks in Year 11. This may also involve attendance at weekly revision sessions, after school and during lunchtimes, where group work and 1 to 1 sessions are available.

  • Maths set Sparx homework which is online. It is set every Wednesday and the hand in day is the following Wednesday each week. Parents are emailed a weekly update.  There are Sparx lunchtime clubs for students who prefer to complete their tasks during this period.

  • KS3 English set Sparx Reading homework.  It is set every Wednesday for completion by the following Tuesday, with after school sessions running every Wednesday after school for those who do not complete their work to meet the set deadline.

  • PE homework- Attendance to at least one extracurricular club each week is expected for students in all year groups.

  • KS3 DT homework is completed by students for four separate subject rotations. This is in the form of an Independent Study Task (IST). Each IST is a subject specific project-based A5 booklet which is set at the start of the rotation. Students are expected to spend 30 minutes each week completing the task for eight weeks. Work is peer, self and teacher assessed.

  • KS3 Creative Arts (Art and Design, Drama and Music)

Students will be asked to complete a literacy-based activity. This will include a range of tasks to increase their knowledge of subject specific keywords and how to use them correctly when writing or talking about the arts, ensuring each learner can think, write and speak like an artist, designer, musician or performer. Students may be asked to learn the correct spelling, record the definition, write in a sentence or explore synonyms and antonyms. Students may also be asked to create a response illustrating the concept or a research-based activity exploring a given theme.

KS4 Visual Art (Art and Design and Photography) students will be directed by their teacher to complete activities to support the production of their personal portfolios or externally set examination tasks. A minimum of 1 hour per week should be spent on completing observational drawing, design development or artist research. Students will be offered direction as a group or on an individual basis by their subject teacher.

KS4 performing arts (Drama and Music) students will be required to learn and rehearse performance pieces or revise for written examinations. Vocabulary tests will also be used to consolidate their understanding of subject specific terminology.

(Homework is set to enhance and develop class work but it is not always practicable, desirable, or appropriate to set homework on every occasion.)
