Key Stage 3 Curriculum (Years 7–9)
At Pedmore High School, our Key Stage 3 curriculum is designed to inspire curiosity, develop knowledge and skills, and prepare students for success in Key Stage 4 and beyond. Through a broad and balanced programme of study, students are encouraged to become confident learners, critical thinkers, and responsible citizens.
English
Students develop their reading, writing, speaking and listening skills through the study of a diverse range of fiction, non-fiction and poetry. The curriculum promotes creativity, analytical thinking and effective communication, enabling students to express themselves with confidence and accuracy.
Mathematics
Our mathematics curriculum builds strong numerical fluency and problem-solving skills. Students explore topics including number, algebra, geometry, statistics and probability, developing logical reasoning and the ability to apply mathematical concepts in a variety of contexts.
Science
Science encourages students to question, investigate and understand the world around them. Through practical experiments and theoretical learning across biology, chemistry and physics, students develop scientific knowledge, enquiry skills and an appreciation of the role science plays in everyday life.
Geography
Students explore physical and human geography at local, national and global scales. They investigate environmental issues, population change, climate, ecosystems and global development, gaining a deeper understanding of the interconnected world in which they live.
History
History enables students to examine significant events, individuals and periods from the past. Through the study of British and world history, students develop their understanding of chronology, cause and consequence, and learn to evaluate evidence and different historical interpretations.
Design Technology
Design Technology encourages creativity, innovation and practical problem-solving. Students design, make and evaluate products using a range of materials and technologies, developing technical knowledge alongside valuable project management and design skills.
Art
The art curriculum nurtures creativity, imagination and self-expression. Students experiment with a variety of media, techniques and artistic styles while studying the work of influential artists. They are encouraged to develop confidence in their own creative abilities and visual communication skills.
Music
Students develop their musical understanding through listening, performing and composing. They explore a range of musical genres, cultures and traditions while building confidence in practical performance and creative composition.
Drama
Drama provides opportunities for students to develop confidence, collaboration and communication skills. Through performance, improvisation and script work, students explore character, storytelling and theatrical techniques while developing creativity and resilience.
Physical Education
Physical Education promotes healthy lifestyles, teamwork and personal achievement. Students participate in a broad range of sports and physical activities, developing fitness, skill, leadership and an understanding of the importance of physical wellbeing.
Personal, Social, and Health Education (PSHE)
PSHE equips students with the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in modern society. Topics include health and wellbeing, relationships, personal safety, careers, financial education and citizenship, supporting students to make informed and responsible decisions.
Computing
Computing develops students' understanding of digital technology and its impact on society. Students learn computer science principles, programming, digital literacy and online safety, preparing them for an increasingly technological world.
Religious Education
Religious Education encourages students to explore different beliefs, values and worldviews. Through the study of major religions and ethical issues, students develop respect, empathy and critical thinking while considering important questions about life and society.
French
Students develop their skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing through the study of the French language and culture. The curriculum builds confidence in communication, broadens cultural awareness and encourages students to appreciate the value of learning a modern foreign language in an increasingly connected world.
Urdu
Students studying Urdu develop their ability to communicate effectively in both spoken and written forms. The curriculum enhances linguistic skills, deepens understanding of cultural heritage and promotes confidence in using the language across a range of contexts. Students also gain valuable literacy and communication skills that support their wider learning.
Enrichment Opportunities
Learning extends beyond the classroom through a wide range of enrichment opportunities. Students are encouraged to participate in clubs, sports teams, music and drama productions, educational visits, competitions, leadership programmes and community projects. These experiences help students discover new interests, develop talents, build confidence and create lasting memories as part of the wider school community.

Key Stage 4 Curriculum (Years 10–11)
At Pedmore High School, our Key Stage 4 curriculum is designed to provide students with a strong academic foundation while allowing them to pursue subjects that reflect their interests, strengths and future aspirations. Through a balanced programme of core and optional GCSE qualifications, students are supported to achieve their full potential and prepare successfully for further education, training and employment.
All students study a core curriculum that includes:

Alongside these core subjects, students select from a range of option subjects across the arts, humanities, technology, languages and vocational disciplines. This allows students to personalise their learning pathway and develop specialist knowledge and skills in areas of interest.
Our Key Stage 4 curriculum promotes academic excellence, independent learning, resilience and critical thinking. Students are encouraged to take increasing responsibility for their learning, develop effective study habits and build the confidence needed to succeed in examinations and beyond.
In addition to their GCSE studies, students continue to benefit from Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE), careers guidance, enrichment opportunities and personal development programmes. These experiences help students develop the knowledge, skills and character needed to become responsible, informed and ambitious young adults.
Throughout Years 10 and 11, our dedicated staff provide high-quality teaching, targeted support and expert guidance to ensure every student is well prepared for their next steps, whether progressing to sixth form, college, apprenticeships or future career pathways.
